How to Measure Your Dog

To determine the best fit for your dog, use the following tips to guide you.

When measuring, try to have your dog stand in a relaxed stance. Use a fabric or soft tape measure, and measure completely around the appropriate body part. Keep the measuring tape a bit loose.

Please remember that every dog is different and might need to wear a size up, especially if your dog has longer, thicker fur, is larger boned, or has a deeper, fuller chest. This might apply especially to sweaters, dresses, or t-shirts, if you prefer a looser fit. Our coats are cut more generously to enable layering, so you might not need to go a size up, even if you prefer a looser fit.

When choosing the perfect fit for Oscar Newman apparel, measure your dog's back, neck, and chest:

Back: Measure from the base of the neck to the base of the tail.
Neck: Measure all the way around the neck at top of the shoulders.
Chest: Measure girth all the way around broadest part of chest or ribcage.

Sweater, Dress, and T-shirt Size Chart

Please note that the following size charts are for average (approximate) sizes of dogs, and that dogs vary according to age, breed, bone-structure, and even fur/hair density.

Oscar Newman sweaters, t-shirts, and hoodies are cut longer than most other brands, and are designed to cover the dog more fully to the base of the tail. Sweaters, t-shirts, and hoodies tend to allow for variances, as they are made of stretchable material.

Coat Size Chart

Oscar Newman coats are cut more generously and fit longer along the top line than most other brands. This will enable you to layer the coats with another shirt or sweater on very cold days. Coats are usually made of non-stretchable material, and are cut larger to ensure comfortable fit and allow for movement.
